In October 2021, a group of about 15 middle and high school students, parents, and community members in Incline Village embarked on a journey to design and create Thrive Lab Tahoe.
During weekly meetings - mostly Saturday and Sunday afternoons - members designed the program and equipment needs for each studio, the management structure, and projects they wanted to do in the studios. We had our first showcase party fundraising in December which brought 50 to 70 people out in snowy weather to experience the fun and promise of the lab. We hosted an Open House on May 1st, 2022 to recruit students, partners, and funders. The kids and parents generated a variety of logo and moto ideas and finally came to concensus on this awesome logo for the Thrive Lab Tahoe program. What do you think?? |
Kevin Edwards Computer Science CLASS video projectIn just ONE WEEK in February 2022, 9 students from Incline Middle School CHOSE to plan, film, and produce this video about Thrive Lab - instead of taking a final exam.
They walked across the street from their school with the multi-talented Mr. Edwards (also teaches social studies, business planning, and making "Dream Donuts"). They came for only 30 minutes each day that week. And with a COVID outbreak at the end of week, they were very short staffed during production and final edits (hence no closing credits). Kids are amazing when unleashed to be creative!! Watch video here. |
Misha Gehring shares her MANY DESIGN talentsA graduate of Incline Village schools and Brown University computer science and multi-media arts program, the talented Misha joined us to develop a new website for Thrive Lab Tahoe (nearly done) and this video walk-through of the Thrive Lab studios. WHAT TO DO?
For both programs, we will split up into teams of 3 to 5 students to engage in an original process created by EIC: Collaborative Action Research & Design - which supports individual students, and teams of students, to CREATE THEIR OWN ADVENTURES for powerful learning.
How? For starters, we'll use the PROJECT PALS program; designed by a science teacher to enable kids (of all ages) to run their own projects. This means working with a coach to design, manage, and deliver results for real-world projects through planning and collaboration - both in person and on-line.
In Thrive Design Clubs, students will use Project Pals to develop their Self-Preneur mastery plan and design a Thrive Town Lab for their community.
We'll be working with parents, coaches, mentors, and local and national experts to help you and
your core design team to:
WHAT WILL YOU GET?
Through this program and by continuing to participate in the creation of Thrive Town Lab and the many career explore projects that you will be able to do, you will be building and demonstrating the skills and strong capacities that top employers are now desparately SEEKING:
