NOW expandING thrive lab RENO/SPARKS
into thrive town & WORLD @ oddie district
In May 2023, we moved much of the furniture and equipment from the first Thrive Lab in Incline Village to a small (very cramped 450sf!) space within The Generator Community Makerspace at 2450 Oddie Blvd, Sparks - which is the anchor tenant of the emerging Oddie District Community Arts & Innovation Hub.
We've been working to develop four aspects of Thrive World Ecosystem Phase 1 prototype vision in parallel:
We've been working to develop four aspects of Thrive World Ecosystem Phase 1 prototype vision in parallel:
1 - Design of THRIVE TOWN within the Oddie District - 12 to 15,000 sf floorplan to house a regional "edutainment center" and Thrive Academy and Institute (Thrive AI) for universal youth kand community thriving. This is where youth of all ages become "Self-Preneurs" - doing collaborative projects with peers, community coaches, and employers with latest technologies in playgrounds to develop personal, professional, and community capacities to thrive and contribute their talents and passions to co-creating a more vibrant human, physical, and metaversal ecosystems for all.
>>> Explore 2D & 3D floorplan on Planner 5D HERE. By June 2024, we hope to build this space out to accomodate youth ages 10 to 22 from districts and colleges to do projects that support UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This space will ideally be lthe home of Thrive Academy & Institute (Thrive AI) to incubate the future of youth and community thriving as they learn, work, design, create, play, and transform together. 2 - THRIVE WORLD PORTAL - digital twin of Thrive Town facility to enable metaversal Web3 XR games for change and good play and create, peer and coach teams doing SDG and career explore projects, and Self-Preneurs building and showcasing their portfolio of projects, competencies, and credentials. See the Thrive Town Adventure Tour video HERE (or click on video image) guided by Self-Preneurs. This was created by a local game design company with TMCC students (Unity-based).
In Phase 2, Self-Preneurs will have their blockchain-based secure digital wallet of identity, competencies, assets, value exchange contracts, and currency. 3 - THRIVE COLLABORATIVE - now being developed on Mighty Networks, tentatively called "Thrive World Hub" will be where all youth and adult members across the community can find each other and collaborate on Self-Preneur development, design projects, and managing and evolving Thrive World Ecosystem programs, governance, policies, and innovation (e.g., Labs 7 Towns Network, World, Academy, Institute).

We were one of 9 semi-finalists invited to pitch for the $500K Big Idea Challenge award for Nevada organizations seeking to innovate education.
See details in our NEWS BLOG. <---- View our 1 minute video submitted in June. On October 4 we presented in Las Vegas to seven judges from multiple foundations - led by the Agassi and Englestadt foundations. Two famous judges helped make the decision: musician JEWEL and MIKE ROWE - host of Dirty Jobs. Read about their While we were hopeful that our proposal would align with the judges values and commitments to the innovative and developmental education (read about their passions here), we were sadly not selected this time around. |
Lessons Learned & Next Steps?
From this and other grants and funding that we have pursued this year, we realize a key to winning state or national grants in 2023 is to have local partners, sponsors, and staff - in both north and south regions of Nevada - to build Thrive Lab demonstration centers and web3 learning and management systems that are ready to be scaled for broad impact.

FALL 2022:
|
Since September of this year, EIC team has been conducting a Thrive Lab program at IMS as part of the new Exploratory Period on Wednesday afternoons.
This 110 min period allows students to explore different areas of interest each quarter - thanks to the vision of Principal Kari Michael, her creative teachers, and community organization leaders who offer experiences outside the building (such as Rec Center swimming, bowling, cooking, gardening, crocheting, etc). In the first two quarters, we've had 18 to 20 students at a time deciding what kind of project they want to work on while also developing their inner "Self-PreneurTM" - self-aware and self-directed creator and designer of their best life in service to community. The Thrive Design Club - which includes students, parents, and community members - is a critical component of our success. Our kick-off meeting was October 15, 2021 and by November 1st we moved into a 4,050 square foot two story building in the heart of Incline Village - along with Tahoe Tutoring. The Design Club team has been developing and outfitting our career studios, and successfully planned our Holiday Showcase fundraising launch party that was held on December 12. An enthusiastic group of about 70 people attended and reaffirmed our mission. Over the holidays, work will continue to design the projects and programs that students will participate in as part of the studios and raise the funds to support them.
EIC is writing today to ask for your generosity to ensure the success of this inaugural Thrive Lab in Incline Village. As soon as the Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and coaches to support the learning experiences, more students will be able to participate - regardless of ability to pay. As we engage more students in career development projects in 2022, EIC will demonstrate the value of the program mission: EMPOWERING OPPORTUNITIES FOR LEARNERS AND COMMUNITIES TO THRIVE TOGETHER. |
HELP CREATE THE ADVENTURE! |
Link to program flyer here - and share with friends! We are now in the process of outfitting the eight studios - see floor plan here - which serve as career hubs for learners, ages 10 to 18 to start, to explore and develop their talents and passions. Our critical path is to raise funds in partnership with employer sponsors of the studios, program partners, parents, and grants from public and private sources. To be successful as an ongoing enterprise, the Thrive Lab Incline program will need;
